Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) is a not-for-profit organization and provides high quality English language training to help students improve all aspects of their English language skills.
At IELI, students' study in two separate classes i.e. Reading & Writing and Listening & Communication. Students can be placed in different levels for their different classes. This means, for example, that if student speaking is better than their writing, they will be placed in a higher-level class for Listening & Communication than for Reading & Writing. This way, students can challenge themselves to improve in their strong areas and get some extra help to improve in their weak areas. The institute also offer extra classes in the afternoon that students can attend for no extra cost. These classes offer additional practice in specific areas, like pronunciation, and there are also classes just for practicing conversation with local university students.
IELI students come from many different countries. It normally have between 20 and 30 different nationalities students from Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Africa. The institute strongly encourage students to work together with students from other countries, and often use group work in class to encourage this.
Intensive English Language Institute also have a strong student activities programme, called the IELI Culture Club. Every week, various social activities are organized for students to join and meet other students. It offers winery tours, trips to the Adelaide zoo, Adelaide hills tours, city tours, ice-skating, and many other fun activities. Students are always accompanied on activities by IELI staff and activities are free or offered at less than cost.
IELI is located on the beautiful campus of Flinders University, which has been its home for more than 25 years. Conveniently situated in the leafy southern suburbs of Adelaide, the school has direct public transport links to the vibrant city centre, and is just 10 minutes drive from the spectacular Adelaide beaches to the west, and the Adelaide hills to the east. Full-time IELI students receive Flinders University student cards and can access all of the facilities at the university, including the libraries, cafes and restaurants, and the gym.
