The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine trains future physicians to exercise compassion and commitment in the practice of medicine and do their part to improve health care worldwide. Students at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine have the opportunity to partake in world-class basic, translational and clinical biomedical research studies. These research experiences can help prepare them for highly competitive residency programs. <br>The School of Medicine hosts more than 17 million in annual research funding from the National Institutes of Health, nongovernmental funders and industry to study causes and treatments for major diseases and illnesses. The NIH awards include individual investigator initiated research projects and three multidisciplinary program awards. The School's Center of Biomolecular Research Excellence (COBRE) hosts researchers studying molecular signaling in a range of systems including the central nervous system, the neuromuscular junction and Drosophila olfactory system. School of Medicine research also supports the Diagnostics Discovery Laboratory, whose goal is to identify multiple biomarkers that can be targeted by a rapid and sensitive immunoassay for early diagnosis of disease.
