The University of Nevada, Reno was founded in 1874 as Nevada's first institution of higher education which delivers on its land-grant mission of access to education and knowledge by investing in the academics, facilities, engagement, support and vibrant campus life that promote our diverse students' cognitive growth and academic achievement, all while remaining one of the best values in American higher education.
The University provides more than 460 undergraduate & graduate degree, certificate & minor programs within 11 academic colleges. It equips students with the knowledge, tools and abilities to join the next generation of innovators and problem solvers. The University is home to individual colleges and schools that are on the cutting-edge of research and student instruction. It is home to dozens of state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities and more than 60 research centers that anchor pioneering work in areas ranging from engineering research to sustainability in Lake Tahoe and the Great Basin region. The University of Nevada’s student residence halls and living learning communities are designed to maximize student success by providing space for collaboration and community. It offers nine modern and comfortable residence halls, each conveniently located near the heart of campus and just a short walk from the William N. Pennington Student Achievement Center where all students can find resources and support for academic and personal success. Beside this, The University is home to 33 different dining locations and eateries -- from Starbucks to local sub favorite, Port O' Subs. They also offer a variety of dining and meal plans for students living on-campus, as well as community meal plans for students living off-campus.
The University is committed to supporting a healthy living environment with quality recreational programs and services that complement the academic process with more than 108,000 square feet with three basketball gymnasiums, areas for weightlifting, cardio training, mind-body training, a fitness staircase, 18th mile running track and a multitude of new fitness classes and activities; the fitness center supports a healthy learning environment. Also, there are more than 35 different student clubs for students to foster their recreational interest.
