Master's graduates in a range of humanities, social-science and applied-science disciplines are eligible for consideration for admission. As examples, master's graduates in geography, sociology, planning, environmental science, rural extension studies and international development may be particularly suitable. Applicants who have not completed courses relevant to rural studies or gained experience in rural communities may be required to do so prior to admission or as part of initial phases of the PhD program.
Admission to the doctoral program requires a satisfactory baccalaureate and at least high second-class honours (‘B' standing) in a recognized master's program.

课程简介
The Rural Studies PhD Program offers advanced studies on the socio-cultural and biophysical sustainability of rural communities and regions. Faculty engage in research and applied work in Canada and internationally and represent a range of disciplines including: planning, landscape architecture, political science, public administration, geography, adult education, and communications The PhD program requires the successful completion of 2.00 graduate course credits after which, students must write and publicly defend a qualifying examination paper and then write and publicly defend a research based thesis. The program is designed to be completed in 12 semesters.
