University of Missouri, Kansas City got its start in 1930 with a gift from William Volker, a man fondly remembered for his generosity. The university is the largest comprehensive, fully accredited university in the Kansas City area. The original home of the University of Kansas City (now UMKC), Volker Campus is named after William Volker, a wealthy businessman and philanthropist who donated a mansion (now Scofield Hall) and 40 acres of land to the University of Kansas City. Health Sciences Campus includes the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Nursing and Health Studies, which are located in an area known as Hospital Hill.
