Opened in 1959, The Illawarra Grammar School (TIGS) is an independent co-educational Anglican day school located on the eastern coast of New South Wales in the City of Wollongong, approximately 70km south of Sydney. TIGS is a dynamic educational centre that encourages each student to pursue the highest level of academic excellence, personal achievement and fulfilment of which they are capable. It aims to encourage independent thought and serious study, a high level of personal presentation and responsibility, the ability to lead and work with others, and develop individual talents and interests.
The School employs highly qualified, university trained teachers, integrates the latest technology extensively throughout the curriculum and has well-resourced classrooms and laboratories. It is an International Baccalaureate World School offering the Primary Years Programme in its Junior School and the Middle Years Programme in Year 7 to Year 10. In Years 11 and 12 students are able to choose either the IB Diploma Programme or the NSW Higher School Certificate Course. The School’s Centre for English provides a high quality English course to prepare students for the Senior School. The Centre for English is wholly owned by The Illawarra Grammar School and is accredited by the National ELT Accreditation Scheme.
TIGS is situated on an impressive site facing both Mt Keira and Mt Kembla and strategically placed to take advantage of the many educational, cultural, sporting and transport facilities associated with the City of Wollongong and relative nearness to Sydney.
