This program is designed for students interested in interdisciplinary study and research focused on addressing the fundamental issues of today. With guidance from your supervisory committee, you will develop a plan of study that incorporates courses in your primary discipline of cell biology and biophysics with courses from a compatible co-discipline. Some compatible co-disciplines include chemistry, molecular biology and biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacology, oral and craniofacial sciences, or physics. The goal of this program is to prepare you for high-level careers in the academic, governmental or industrial sectors. You will also have the opportunity to participate in the teaching program for the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences.<br>This program consists of coursework in your primary and co-discipline areas of study, followed by comprehensive written and oral examinations, which must be completed prior to the start of your third year. After passing your exams, the research, dissertation and defense portion of the program begins, giving you a chance to focus your research on areas such as drug import, export and resistance; genomics, evolution and reproductive biology; neurobiology and neuroscience; structural biology; virology and more.
