Oral Biology teaches the majority of the basic sciences to dental students, including anatomy, biochemistry, cell biology, immunology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology and physiology. In addition, the department has an active graduate program which, through the wide range of interests and background of its faculty members, prepares students for research in the basic medicaldental science areas. The Ph.D. program requires satisfactory completion of course requirements as determined by each student's Advisory Committee and a thesis based on original research. Minimum course requirements are 12 credit hours at the 700 level plus Course 100.719 Communication Skills in Dental Research (unless they have previous credit for an equivalent course). Ph.D. students are expected to attend all departmental seminars. Students shall present at least one seminar on their own research to the Department each year - updating it each year. The Ph.D. option consists of coursework and a substantial research component. Expected Duration - 4 years.
