The Bachelor of Science Biotechnology Concentration degree provides students with a strong foundation that prepares them for work in industry or further education in a graduate program. At Purdue Northwest Department of Biological Sciences, students will gain hands on experience in labs and learn how to use equipment that is ubiquitous in modern biotechnology including plate readers, fluorescence microscopes, thermocyclers and quantitative real-time PCR. Recent acquisitions of equipment including a new state of the art gel imaging system gives students an advantage by familiarizing them with equipment used in industrial and research labs. Biotechnologists use knowledge of living organisms, biochemistry, and genetics to find solutions to problems and develop new products in a variety of industries including medical, manufacturing, agricultural, food science, and environmental professions.
