We created the interdisciplinary Ph.D. program to allow students to pursue an individualized course of study aimed at solving the complex and interconnected issues of the day. Your plan of study will incorporate your primary interest in engineering with at least one other compatible co-discipline. Some suggested compatible co-disciplines include chemistry, computer science, electrical and computer engineering, geosciences, mathematics, molecular biology and biochemistry, oral biology, physics, and telecommunication and computer networking. Ultimately, the direction of your studies, research and career are completely up to you. During this program, you will complete didactic coursework in your primary discipline and co-discipline areas of study, pass a comprehensive examination, develop and propose a dissertation research project, and put it all together into a comprehensive written dissertation that you will present and defend. Possible areas of research could include computer-aided design; manufacturing engineering; automation, robotics and controls; renewable energy; energy storage; aerospace engineering; and more.
