All students should have a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 3.0/4.0 overall on the last 60 hours of undergraduate courses. Send a graduate application and officials transcripts of undergraduate and graduate work to Graduate Admissions. Send the chair of the English Department an electronic 1-3 page “Statement of Purpose” detailing the student’s educational background, personal interests in graduate language, literary, writing, or rhetorical study, and desired career path. A writing sample if requested from department. (if the department is not familiar with the student, the department may ask students to submit a portfolio of up to 20 pages of undergraduate creative or scholarly writing to support their application and/or letters of recommendation). If students have less than a 3.0 in advanced English courses or in the last sixty hours, then they may submit GRE scores to Graduate Admissions for additional consideration.
