The Doctor of Audiology program, offered by the Department of Audiology, is a 4-year course of study that includes academic courses, clinical rotations, and a doctoral research project. Audiology is an allied health profession that is concerned with 1) the science of the hearing and balance mechanisms, and 2) the clinical identification, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals with hearing and balance disorders. The Doctor of Audiology program will prepare individuals to diagnose and treat hearing loss and other disorders involving the ear, advise patients on means to use and preserve their remaining hearing, and select and fit hearing aids and other devices. Coursework includes instruction in acoustics, anatomy and physiology, hearing measurement, auditory pathology, middle and inner ear analysis, vestibular analysis and rehabilitation, rehabilitation therapies and assistive technologies, and pediatric and other special applications.
