The Kinesiology plan encompasses the scientific study of human movement in order to optimize health and prevent illness and injury. The plan provides a foundation in anatomy, biomechanics, physiology, nutrition, and neuroscience, complemented by biology, chemistry, and physics courses from the Faculty of Science. In keeping with an emphasis on applied and experiential learning, competence is developed through various laboratory courses, facilities, and assignments as well as advanced practicum courses in sports injury assessment, cardiac rehabilitation, and movement assessment. With one of the largest departments of kinesiology in North America, students also have the unique opportunity to take specialized kinesiology electives, and distinguish themselves with expertise in areas such as gait analysis, altitude and aerospace physiology, motor learning, or low back disorders. In addition to traditional science courses in biomechanics, neuroscience, and physiology, youll have four kinesiology-related minors and dozens of campus-wide minors to choose from. You can also include courses to prepare you for professional health programs such as medicine and physiotherapy.<br><br>The Rehabilitation Sciences Specialization is open to Kinesiology students who wish to obtain some specialization in rehabilitation sciences. The Honours Kinesiology program is well suited to prepare students for future study/practice in a wide variety of health professions (e.g., physical therapy, chiropractics, occupational therapy, athletic therapy, clinical kinesiology). Although the Kinesiology core includes several rehabilitation science courses, the Rehabilitation Sciences Specialization is designed to provide additional elective courses in rehabilitation sciences to prepare students for success in post-degree study/practice in the health professions.
