The Music Education Program at the LSU School of Music is among the most highly regarded in the nation. Situated in a long tradition of excellence, the program combines an outstanding faculty of music education specialists with the artistry of performing musicians and conductors, the scholarship of music theorists and historians, a strong liberal arts component, and a consistently high-quality body of undergraduate and graduate students.<br><br>Our undergraduate program is designed to strengthen our students analytical skills and musicianship through intensive studies in tonal harmony and counterpoint, form and analysis, chromaticism, and post-tonal theory. The graduate curriculum includes a varied pedagogical methodology, including flipped classroom learning, multimedia resources, and in-class performance to help our students integrate classroom knowledge and knowledge acquisition skills with performance craft.<br><br>Our graduate programs (M.M. and Ph.D.) offer intensive studies in areas that include analysis and performance, set theory, transformational theory, corpus studies, and music cognition. Graduate assistantships are available on a highly competitive basis.
