Music students at Mason Gross School of the Arts have access to all the resources of a music conservatory situated within a nationally ranked research university. The Music Department aims to develop well-educated professional musicians with a complex historical and theoretical understanding of all aspects of music. The Music Department boasts a large and distinguished faculty of principals and members of the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. The Bachelor of Music program offers concentrations in classical performance (voice and instrumental), composition, jazz studies, and music education. The Bachelor of Music with a concentration in music education leads to NJ teacher certification. Double concentrations and minors outside of music are possible. All BM students receive a one-hour weekly lesson with a faculty member for 8 semesters. BM students also participate in at least one of the 20Plus performance ensembles each semester.
