In addition to the completed form, and Graduate Record Examination scores, applicants are required to submit:

All relevant (undergraduate and graduate) transcripts,

three letters of recommendation from persons familiar with the applicant's academic work,

a writing sample.

Applicants with the M.A. from another university who wish to enter the Ph.D. program are required to solicit at least one of their letters of recommendation from a graduate instructor and to submit a writing sample demonstrating their critical thinking and scholarship in art history.
Prerequisites - Applicants should have a strong liberal arts background, with a minimum of six art history courses as prerequisite for admission. Students may be asked to make up deficiencies prior to or in the first year of the graduate curriculum by taking undergraduate courses for graduate credit, auditing undergraduate classes or through supervised readings. Although not a prerequisite, reading proficiency in one foreign language must be demonstrated within the first year of the program. Graduate Record Examination scores are required by the Graduate School. The normal minimum score is considered to be a total of 297 on the verbal and quantitative segments combined, with a minimum of 153 on the verbal section. To be considered for fellowships, an applicant must have a verbal score significantly higher than the minimum of 153.
The minimum paper-based TOEFL score is 550. The minimum computer-based TOEFL score is 213, The minimum IBT-internet based TOEFL is Writing 22, Speaking 23, Reading 21, Listening 17, An acceptable IELTS score is bandwidth 7.
