The graduate program in studio art seeks to provide the self-motivated student with the tools needed to meet the demands required of the professional working artist. Intense study, intellectual examination and historical understanding combined with the vast creative offerings in Dallas/Fort Worth prepare you for a career as a professional artist. Emerge from three years of vigorous study equipped with both the practical and the theoretical knowledge to immerse yourself in the art world and marketplace.The University of Dallas's graduate art curriculum pairs the study of visual art from historical, theoretical and critical perspectives with disciplined studio practice in an effort to define a clear understanding of the work and its evolution. Students work with the entire graduate art faculty through independent studies, one-on-one critique sessions and group evaluations to diverse perspectives on his/her work. A strong commitment and dedication to the process of creating art and sound critical thinking are characteristic of our students.The Master of Arts in Art is the intermediate level graduate program for students, who may specialize in painting, printmaking, ceramics and sculpture. It allows for concentrated study over an extended period of time under personal and intensive guidance of the graduate Art faculty and with an assigned major professor. The purpose of the program is to present students with theoretical and practical knowledge to make art approaching professional quality. The M.A. in Art is offered for students who are intent on pursuing a terminal degree in art such as the M.F.A. It also aims to meet the needs of art teachers in secondary schools who wish to deepen their knowledge of their field. At ten credits per semester, completion of the program normally takes three semesters (including independent study during the summer).
