Students have access to all the resources of a theater conservatory situated within a nationally ranked research university. Located only 45 minutes from New York City, the design program provides a strong foundation in theater history and theory with rigorous training in the skills needed to work in the entertainment business. Faculty and staff are distinguished working professionals, and classes are small, so students receive one-on-one mentoring. Design students follow a 3.5 year, 7 semester, curriculum with numerous opportunities to see their ideas realized on stage and to build robust portfolios. Students concentrate in one of four areas: lighting, set, costume design, and costume technology. Professional internships are an integral part of the program and all design students participate in a six-week intensive in London.
