The Department of Art and Design sparks exploration across various art disciplines as well as deep study of design. Students immerse themselves in an intensive studio art environment while also pursuing liberal arts studies within a nationally-ranked research university. Proximity to New York City and Philadelphia offers access to a faculty of renowned professionals, prestigious museums and galleries, as well as visiting artists and designers. In design studio courses, students create posters, books, identities, infographics, mobile app concepts, websites and more. The focus is on experimentation and critical engagement with contemporary culture. At upper levels, students undertake real world assignments in an internship or practicum, honing their sense of design in the everyday. Students develop the aesthetic, technical, and intellectual skills to pursue a design practice and career.
