We are a community of researchers whose work is distinguished by long-standing chronological breadth, ranging from Classics and Ancient History to Medieval and Early Modern History and Modern and Contemporary History, as well as thematic depth, from the study of medicine and gender to that of war and politics.<br><br>Our research adopts methodologies including literary and cultural approaches, and ranges across economic, diplomatic and political histories. History is an outward facing community, engaging a range of external partners and informing the practice of non-academic stakeholders, including schools, charities, professional and governmental bodies, and the public at large.<br>A PhD is for students who wish to devise an independent research project which will result in an original contribution to knowledge in the subject area. Students can study on a full-time or a part-time basis and programmes begin in October and January.<br><br>You will be expected to have formulated an outline research proposal only at the application stage. You will spend the first months of your course developing your proposal under the guidance of your supervisory team.
