This course gives you the opportunity to develop a detailed understanding of the practical applications of modern finance theories in the financial world. The programme follows the CFA syllabus and complements this with additional skills such as coding, experience in using databases and empirically testing complex financial models.The programme is highly industry-focussed and culminates in the Industry Collaboration Project. You will choose one of four options to look at a real industry problem and provide researched solutions, helping you put your learning into practice.In this way, the programme combines a strong academic emphasis with a professional syllabus to enhance your employability. Learning from specialist staff with expertise in accounting, finance, economics and management, you will gain fundamental insights into strategic corporate decision-making within an international context, consider the principles of portfolio analysis and financial instruments selection, understand, apply and critically evaluate the modern equity valuation and the concepts behind financial reporting, understand, apply and critically assess modern corporate governance, modern capital structure theory and its relevance to the structure of the contemporary business environments.<br><br>The programme is block delivered and there are several entry points throughout the year. Students will take the modules below in a sequence dependent on their start date.The course is delivered in four blocks of intensive study periods. For each block, you study a single module for a six-week period. Face-to-face teaching is delivered on campus for six hours each week. In addition, you will attend the taught element of the Industry Collaboration Project each Wednesday afternoon during the six6-week blocks. During this period, you will also undertake independent study in your own time with online support through the University's virtual learning environment, Blackboard.The Industry Collaboration Project (ICP) module accounts for the final 60 credits of your degree. You will have the opportunity to select between a live project, placement, internship or dissertation, all of which are designed to accommodate your career aspirations and enhance your professional experience.You will be allocated a supervisor who will mentor you through the ICP. You will also have the opportunity to engage with the Student Hub and askUS. askUS can help with pre project/placement support for students and opportunities for those going on placement to participate in training workshops to ensure best practice. The Student Hub can helps you to find internships, placements and live projects for your Industry Collaboration Project.<br><br>This is an advanced degree in corporate finance and can lead you to a wide range of career opportunities and roles, such as finance director, new business development manager, treasury manager, financial controller, financial planning manager, stock market financial analyst, funds portfolio manager, and global hedge fund manager. It also provides a thorough preparation for academic research in finance and corporate finance.<br><br>On successfully finishing this programme, you will be equipped with the skills and understanding necessary to effectively and efficiently perform tasks in a managerial or consulting role. As well as your academic learning, you will develop your ability to work well in teams and independently, to evaluate critically, think creatively and communicate effectively with respect to issues in the industry, and to recognise good practice in the analysis, planning and management of international banking and finance products and services. You'll also develop an advanced level of understanding of research methods and their application to a wide range of international banking and finance problems.
