Our Accounting and Finance BSc will develop the essential skills and knowledge to open the doors to a dynamic career in accountancy, finance, or management in a variety of global industries. Studying accounting and finance is much more than learning to keep a check on the numbers, it is also about adding value, developing your analytical and communication competencies, your understanding of finance strategy, and your overall business knowledge. These are all desirable and transferable skills that employers look for in graduates, and you will use them in your future career to support and influence the business performance of your future employer.<br>Our Accounting and Finance BSc curriculum has been created to provide a strong grounding in both subject areas, whilst giving you the flexibility - through a choice of optional modules - to tailor your studies depending on your career aspirations, strengths, or interests.<br>You will begin the course by establishing the building blocks of your accounting and financial knowledge and continue to develop these as you progress through your degree. Modules will focus on the fundamental principles of accounting like the statement of financial position (balance sheet), the statement of profit or loss (income statement), as well as making sure you have the required level of mathematical knowledge to support financial analysis. It's not all about the numbers, business law is studied as a core first year module as modern accountants also need an awareness of the basic rules of law. You will enhance your skills in preparing financial statements and use IT to support and improve your essential quantitative techniques for developing models and presenting data.<br>Optional modules at this early stage draw from other areas of business including human resource management, microeconomics and macroeconomics, international business, the UK and global economy, and the opportunity to learn more about managing in organisations by working with other students to find a solution to a business problem set by a multinational corporation.<br>As you advance in your studies there will be an emphasis on introducing you to areas of finance such as the decision making involved in stock market investment, the structure and operations of financial markets and the various factors that determine the prices of financial assets. We teach you the theory and practical techniques so you can understand how financial investment portfolios are created and managed. You will explore corporate finance and begin to understand how companies make financial decisions about capital expenditure,<br><br>You will learn how to apply management accounting techniques to support well informed and effective business decision making within business. Financial accounting modules will delve into the latest international financial reporting standards (IFRS), and the preparation of complex group financial statements. You will learn to recognise the importance of audit and the regulatory framework and enhance your skills in critically assessing contemporary issues in accounting.<br><br>You will continue to choose optional modules to enhance your degree experience.
