A grade-point average of at least 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale) covering all college work taken prior to the bachelor's degree, or a grade-point average of at least 3.0 covering all post-baccalaureate work completed to date.

Are you ready to work on the leading-edge of study and research in mathematics This program is designed for students interested in addressing fundamental issues in the field through diverse coursework and research that incorporates knowledge and perspectives from multiple disciplines. Early in the program, you will work with your supervisory committee to develop a plan of study suited to your interests and career goals. In addition to core courses in mathematics, you will also complete coursework in a compatible co-discipline, such as cell biology and biophysics, chemistry, computer networking and communication systems, computer science, curriculum and instruction, electrical and computer engineering, engineering, geosciences, molecular biology and biochemistry, or physics. The goal of this program is to prepare you for high-level careers in academia, government or private industry.<br>This program consists of coursework in your primary and co-discipline areas of study, followed by qualifying examinations based on your chosen emphasis area (mathematics or statistics). After passing the qualifying exams, you can begin doctoral-level research in your area of interest. Within two years, you will then be required to pass written and oral comprehensive examinations related to your research and possible outlets for future work. At this point, you will also have completed the necessary research and writing to form your dissertation and defend it before your supervisory committee to earn your degree.<br>Career opportunities will vary depending on the focus of your studies and goals. However, all graduates of our interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs are equipped with advanced research skills and broad knowledge in their focus disciplines, making them well-prepared for high-level roles in various private and public institutions.
