Graduate Certificate in Modeling and Simulation for Business and Public Administration
课程简介
Modern organizations must address increasingly complex decisions and must often incorporate uncertainty into the decision-making process. Quantitative modeling techniques are, if properly applied, extremely powerful decision-support tools and can supply objective information and insight not available from other sources or forms of analysis. Business Modeling and Simulation involves the use of software tools to build a ''likeness'', or model, of a real business situation. The model is then used to explore, experiment, and perform ''what if'' analysis, providing rich, detailed information to support informed decision-making. Examples of modeling techniques used to help support business decision-making include: discrete-event simulation, agent-based simulation, optimization methods, econometric modeling, and many others. The Business M&S Graduate Certificate is part of ODU's university-wide modeling and simulation initiative The methods, techniques, and concepts covered in the certificate can be utilized in industrial/commercial settings, in non-profit/government settings, and by academic researchers The certificate covers techniques that can be applied across many disciplines, such as supply chain management, economics, marketing, ecological sciences, political science, health care, and many others The certificate attracts students pursuing the certificate as a stand-alone program as well as students pursuing it in conjunction with a variety of graduate programs including Business, Economics, Engineering, Education, International Studies, Biology, Health Sciences, and others The Business M&S Graduate Certificate emphasizes predictive and prescriptive analytics with particular attention to simulation modeling. In essence, the goal is to provide a working knowledge of quantitative modeling techniques to support informed decision-making.
