Communication Studies is a diverse, interdisciplinary major that allows students to focus on multiple approaches to communication. The USCB Communication Studies program helps graduates poise themselves for a vast job market by advancing their verbal, nonverbal, and written communication skills, combined with technical skills in public relations and media production. The program engages students in practical application of these skills through experiential learning. A degree in communication studies can help an individual craft the art of communication through high impact learning in and out of the classroom. Innovative faculty guide students to venture forward in expanding themselves through participation in first-hand projects that focus on real-world experience. Community engagement ranges from going to local historical sites for storytelling projects to doing extensive research on campaign tactics for local non-profit organizations to going out into the field with a camera. Communication Studies students will find themselves thinking innovatively to problem solve in all aspects of their lives, no matter what pathway a student chooses. Finally, students will dive into many communities from friendships to workplaces, and find themselves immersed in what it truly means to be a part of something bigger than themselves through the power of communication.
