The Spanish BA consists of 39 upper-division units in the 300-400 level courses indicated below. The number of lower-division units will depend on the amount of Spanish studied previously in high school or college, heritage speakers: please see prerequisite below.<br><br>Students are encouraged to study abroad through the CSU International Programs in Santiago (Chile), Quertaro (Mexico) or Granada, Jan, or Madrid (Spain), or the semester-long programs in Madrid, Alicante, or Salamanca (Spain). Please see the advisor for further advice.<br><br>Completion of the Spanish major meets the subject matter competence requirement for the Single Subject Teaching Credential in Spanish. Prospective students should consult the undergraduate Spanish Advisor and the Languages Other Than English (LOTE) Program Advisor early to plan their program. The Department also recommends studying an additional language, in particular to students interested in the teaching credential.<br>More than 41 million people in the U.S. speak Spanish. The US Census Bureau reports that the nation's Hispanic population is expected to jump to 119 million by 2060. The Spanish Program, offers a variety of courses in Spanish langauge, literature, culture, linguistics, and translation as well as many study abroad options in the Spanish-speaking world for undergraduate and graduate students. Our programs include a Certificate in Professional and Conversational Competence for Spanish Heritage Speakers, a Minor in Spanish, the Bachelor of Arts, Spanish B.A. Option II: Interdisciplinary Studies, and the Master of Arts degrees in Spanish. In addition, we also offer the Single Subject Teaching Credential in Spanish. These can be completed separately as well as built upon incrementally throughout a student's academic career at CSULB.
