Majoring in Italian at New York University provides undergraduate students with many opportunities. In a rigorous and yet relaxed academic environment, students master the language and obtain a thorough understanding of Italian history, culture and society. Courses range from Dante to contemporary cinema and society, from women writers of the Renaissance to futurist performance art.This joint major requires a total of nine 4-point courses (36 points). Students wishing to major in Italian and Linguistics must complete four courses beyond Intermediate Italian II or Intensive Intermediate Italian. These include two required language courses and two electives in literature and/or culture and society.
