The Baylor American Studies Program offers a comprehensive knowledge of American institutions, trends, history and culture. The interdisciplinary program allows students to choose courses according to their interests, professional goals and aspirations. Majors enjoy intellectual stimulation, exposure to undergraduate research, conferences and faculty mentorship.<br><br>A degree in American Studies helps prepare students to become responsible critical thinkers who understand the importance of examining political, racial and cultural dynamics in the United Statespast, present and future.<br>The graduate program in American Studies is an interdisciplinary program offering comprehensive study in American institutions and culture. The basic program consists of courses in American history and American literature.<br><br>Prerequisites for graduate work in American studies include twenty-one semester hours in any one or in any combination of the following areas: American history, government, journalism, literature, and philosophy, history of American education, history of religion in America, and<br><br>American sociological problems. There is no foreign language requirement. Applicants must submit a General Record Examination (GRE) General Test score, a GRE score and GPA predictive of success in this program are recommended.
