This qualification provides a general vocational outcome in amenity horticulture and will allow you to develop your skills in growing plants for recreational or ornamental purposes, and/or establishing and supervising amenity horticulture sites such as botanic or public gardens, historic gardens and landscapes, sports facilities, urban or other public spaces.<br><br>In this course you will have the opportunity for lots of hands-on learning and the campus-based program provides the chance to put your skills and knowledge into practice through a work placement in the horticultural industry. Youll develop your skills in providing information on plants and their culture, implementing propagation, plant nutrition and plant establishment programs as well as how to prepare growing media. Youll learn how to effectively control weeds, plant pests, diseases, and disorders, as well as how to prepare and apply chemicals, and transport, handle and store them appropriately.<br><br>Youll also learn how to implement soil improvements for garden and turf areas, assist with landscape construction work, and learn how to operate pressurised irrigation systems, as well as perform specialist amenity pruning. Work placement is included in this course. Students are provided with 5-10 days of opportunity to work within industry as part of their course.
