This interdisciplinary Ph.D. program can be tailored to your professional goals, whether you’re looking to start your career or advance to senior positions in curriculum and instruction. With help from your faculty advisor, you will choose a compatible co-discipline and chart your course of study according to your career goals and interests. Some compatible co-discipline options include chemistry; educational leadership, policy and foundations; English; history and physics. You will also focus on core subjects, such as curriculum theory, educational technology, curriculum design, diversity and research methods. This program consists of didactic coursework in your primary discipline and co-discipline areas of study. Over the course of the program, you will also take a comprehensive examination, develop and propose a dissertation research project, and compose and defend your dissertation. Outcomes for graduates can vary widely since the coursework and research completed during this program are directed to your personal interests and ambitions. That said, many of our graduate students go on to pursue supervisory, leadership, educational or research positions in public school districts, government agencies, private foundations, universities, and business and industry.
