Admission to the Graduate School at the University of Connecticut requires the completion of an application form, undergraduate and graduate transcripts, three letters of recommendation, a personal statement, and a processing fee.
GRE scores ARE required for prospective students applying for admission to the Ph.D. program. [GRE scores ARE NOT required, but are strongly recommended, for students applying to the M.A. program.]
If you are not a native speaker of English, you are required to submit evidence of your proficiency in the English language. If you have received a degree in an English speaking University from English speaking country, you may qualify for a waiver. Otherwise, you may use the results (no more than two years old) from one of the following standardized tests to satisfy this requirement:
A cumulative GPA for their most recent degree of 3.0 or higher for the entire degree
1.) Receiving a score of 79 (electronic test) or 550 (paper based) or higher on the TOEFL test.
2.) Receiving a score of 6.5 on the IELTS test.

The Department of Educational Psychology (EPSY) offer's a Ph.D. in the area of Research Methods, Measurement, and Evaluation (RMME). Our program prepares graduates to become leaders in educational measurement, test-theory, program evaluation, large-scale and classroom-based assessment practice, educational statistics, quantitative methodology, and educational research methods. Our graduates pursue careers in academia, testing and research companies, evaluation firms, state departments of education, school districts, and more.<br><br>The Ph.D. program in Research Methods, Measurement, and Evaluation integrates theory and practice to promote the scientific uses of measurement within the field of education and related disciplines. Coursework focuses on current and emerging topics including causality and causal inference, instrument development, classical and modern measurement theory and applications, item response theory, multivariate statistical techniques , multilevel modeling, latent variable modeling, statistical programming, and educational assessment. Emphasis is on the development of professional competencies in these areas. Generally, students complete 3 years of coursework, followed by 1-2 years of independent research under the mentorship of one or more faculty members. Most full-time students complete the RMME Ph.D. program within 5 years.<br><br>Research experiences are available through the university in schools and educational organizations, informal educational settings, and through participation in faculty research grants and projects. Many of our full time students are funded through research graduate assistantships, which provide tuition remission, health insurance, and a stipend.
