The BS in Secondary Education prepares candidates as professional educators to teach students in grades 6-12. Candidates combine professional education courses with upper-level coursework within a specific content area. The program is accredited by Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) and leads to a Class B teaching certificate within the content field.<br>The Department of Curriculum and Instruction collaborates with the College of Arts, Humanities, & Social Sciences, the College of Science, and local schools to offer undergraduate teacher preparation programs that combine a broad liberal education base and professional studies that are content-rich with diverse field experiences integrated into all coursework. <br><br>Several options for graduate certification are also offered. The Master of Education program is available for teachers already certified at the baccalaureate level and seeking advanced-level certification. A Master of Arts in Teaching program is also available for individuals seeking initial certification. Students may also opt to pursue a graduate certificate in Autism Spectrum Disorders.
