We developed the interdisciplinary Ph.D. program for students interested in solving today’s complex and interconnected problems. With guidance from your research advisor and supervisory committee, you will develop a plan of study that includes coursework from your primary discipline (chemistry) and a co-discipline. Some complementary co-disciplines include engineering, geosciences, curriculum and instruction, pharmaceutical science, pharmacology and physics. The goal of your coursework will be to prepare you for future careers in the academic, governmental or industrial sectors. When selecting chemistry as your primary discipline, you will need to complete at least 31 hours of didactic coursework and at least 15 hours of dissertation research. Your dissertation will include a written presentation of your research and findings, along with an oral presentation and defense during a dissertation seminar.
