The department is accredited by the American Chemical Society. Students completing the B.S. degree (chemistry or biochemistry option) are certified by the American Chemical Society. The B.S. degree is the professional degree in chemistry, and students who earn the B.S. degree are well prepared for a career in the chemical industry or for graduate work in chemistry. The department provides opportunities for undergraduates to become involved in ongoing research projects. This degree is intended primarily for preprofessional students in health science and related areas, as well as prelaw students interested in patent law. The UMSL Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers chemistry classes both day and night in order to accommodate working students and even makes it possible to complete your entire degree in the evening. Class sizes are small enough to allow each student significant personal attention and interaction with our incredible faculty.
