Generally speaking, the goal of engineering is to improve the quality of life of individuals, both here in Canada and around the world, through the principled application of science and mathematics in solving the problems of society. From an electrical and computer engineering perspective, this involves the development of electrical, electronic, and computing systems, and the software that runs them, to meet the diverse needs of individuals and businesses. For all students in the Ph.D. program, a thesis, which is based on original research work normally carried out at this university, is required. Two Residence Periods at the University of Manitoba devoted to full-time postgraduate study, subsequent to admission into the Ph.D. program, are required of all students. All full-time Ph.D. students are also required to present a paper every year of their program at the Department's annual graduate student conference.Expected Duration - 3.5 years.
