What is the application process for Limestone District School Board?
Application Process
International students who plan to earn the Ontario high school diploma and then attend a Canadian college or university should note that it normally takes at least two full academic years to gain the competency in English and earn the necessary credits to meet Canadian college and university entrance requirements.
1. Submit the six Application Package documents to international@limestone.on.ca .
2. Each applicant will be asked to schedule an interview with a program staff member by phone, Skype, WeChat, or WhatsApp. This short, casual conversation is an opportunity for the student, and his or her parents, to learn more about Limestone schools and life in Kingston Ontario. It will also allow Limestone staff to communicate useful academic information to our schools.
3. Applicants who are accepted to Limestone will then be required to pay a minimum of the first semester's tuition and homestay fees, plus ancilliary fees.
4. After receiving the initial fees, Limestone will issue the official Letter of Acceptance. Students require this official letter when applying for a Canadian study permit. After issuing the LOA, we then search for a homestay (for those students who require one) and register the student in one of our schools.
5. Students will be assigned to a school based on their (homestay) address in Kingston.
Application Package
Canadian Study Permit
All students who intend to study in Canada for more than six months must apply for a Canadian study permit in their home country before coming to Canada. The processing time can take anywhere from a couple weeks to many months, depending on your home country. Please read this information from the Government of Canada.
Custodianship
International students under the age of 18 who live and study in Canada without a parent must declare a legal custodian who lives in Ontario (and in some cases, lives close to Kingston). A custodian is a Canadian citizen, or permanent resident of Canada, who takes legal responsibility of minor children. Applicants may declare a family member or friend as a legal custodian.
Limestone District School Board provides legal custodianship to international students who do not have such a person in Canada.
Health Insurance
All international students who stay in a Limestone homestay must purchase health insurance through the International Education Office. Insurance forms, and instructions on what to do if a student needs medical care in Canada, are issued to all international students upon their arrival in Kingston. International Education Office staff work closely with students and their homestay families in the event that a student needs medical attention and submits an insurance claim.
