Understanding genetics and molecular genetics is fundamental to all aspects of biology, modern medicine and biotechnology. As genetics affects all aspects of life, a degree in this area opens up a world of career opportunities in science, industry, healthcare, forensics and beyond. You'll be taught by world-class researchers from our internationally-renowned MVLS research institutes. You'll study in one of the largest Schools of Life Sciences in the UK, drawing on hundreds of years of teaching and research experience. You will be given a general introduction to all aspects of modern biology and encouraged to acquire general scientific skills. You will be introduced to specialist subject areas according to your interests (e.g. animal biology, biomolecular sciences, human biology, infection biology). If you progress to Honours, you will develop an in-depth understanding of the principles of genetics and biomolecular science, including: classical foundation of genetics, the application of genetics to understand evolution, populations, biological function, and disease, molecular genetics using model organisms, and human genetics.
