The field of environmental earth sciences considers how interactions and relationships between earth systems produce and respond to environmental changes. The biosphere is a key component of the environment, so an understanding of biology – the science of life – helps us to appreciate how all living things interact with the global earth system. In the environmental earth sciences component of this specialisation, you'll focus on the processes that shape the earth's surface in environments where erosion, sediment transport and deposition dominate. With this understanding, you'll be able to address key environmental issues such as land degradation, pollution and contamination, management of natural resources, species extinction, ecological function and environmental health. In the biology component, you'll learn about a range of biological science concepts, from cell and developmental biology to behaviour, biodiversity, conservation, ecology, genetics, microbiology, morphology and physiology. As well as gaining in-depth science content, you'll acquire skills in the latest technologies and communication methods used in modern science teaching.
