课程简介
The Program in Genetics is the main interdisciplinary PhD program in the Natural Sciences at Texas A&M University and offers research opportunities in a diverse range of Specialties: Bioinformatics and Genomics, Conservation and Population Genetics, Medical Genetics, Microbial Genetics, Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Genetics, and Plant Genetics. We have designed our Program to support students throughout their graduate studies. During the first year, orientation introduces new students to university policies, employee benefits, teaching activities and laboratory safety. Faculty talks and laboratory rotations acquaint students with the faculty and their research. Socials gatherings allow for opportunities to visit and interact with faculty members outside the university environment. Our genetics graduate student association also fosters interaction among students. By the end of fall, students are ready to select their principal advisor and committee faculty, join a laboratory and develop their own research projects. The Genetics Program continues assisting the students through advising, travel award opportunities, career development and financial support. The length of time necessary to complete the requirements of the Ph.D. degree is markedly influenced by the student's preparation, particular research interest, and prior experience in the field selected. Four to five years of study beyond the bachelor's degree or three to four beyond the master's degree are commonly expected.
