The Healthcare Delivery Science concentration in the MSc in Biomedical Informatics (MScBMI) was developed to present students with a complete and customizable curriculum in healthcare delivery science with the ultimate goal of producing healthcare leaders and team members who will learn how to embed healthcare delivery science in their health system. The ultimate goal of biomedical informatics is to improve human health, and the HDS track further refines this goal. The fundamental principle underlying healthcare delivery science is that the intersection between real-world operations and research techniques are critical for understanding and improving healthcare. In part, innovations brought about in the new field of healthcare delivery science are driven by the availability of big data. Today's patients generate almost genomic-scale data as they pass through routine healthcare encounters-meaning that for the first time in history we can deploy analytical techniques formerly used only in top-tier research to understand real-world operational programs.
