The Ball State Department of Biology offers two paths for our master’s degree in biology depending on your academic and professional interests. Students pursuing a master of arts (MA) in biology will complete a creative project, research paper or other significant project of their design instead of writing and defending a thesis. This degree is intended to prepare students for careers in biomedical laboratories, natural resource management agencies, scientific supply firms, environmental consulting firms, scientific publishing or other careers, although students can choose to continue their education as well. Designed to strengthen the student’s background in biological sciences and related disciplines through coursework at the graduate level. Students must fulfill a research requirement, but completion of a thesis is not required. Prepares students for jobs in biomedical laboratories, natural resource management agencies, scientific supply firms, environmental consulting firms, and scientific publishing firms, as well as for further education. At least 60% of course credits must be at the 600-level.
