Entomology has been a core component of Purdue and the College of Agriculture since 1879. Much has changed since then, but the importance of insects is greater than ever. Insect species outnumber all other living organisms, and can be both helpful and harmful to our society. Insects can also be used as models for the study of larger questions in ecology, genetics and evolution. Our award-winning faculty explore a broad range of research areas that can prepare you for many different rewarding entomology careers. We encourage all of students to explore opportunities well beyond the confines of entomology, including multi-disciplinary research, leadership roles throughout the university, career development and international broadening opportunities.
