This certificate is designed to provide interested students the opportunity to study the craft of writing poetry, fiction, or creative nonfiction. Students in any baccalaureate degree program who have at least sophomore standing and a GPA of 2.00 or better can complete the requirements for the certificate. Students must select a single genre, and register with one of the coordinators of creative writing for approval of the program of study. Each student will take four three-credit, upper-level (300 or higher) courses, including the introductory and advanced workshops in sequence in the chosen genre, one course in reading and analysis of the literature of that genre, and one course (excluding workshop) in a second genre. The introductory and advanced workshop (in sequence) in the chosen genre, which serve as the foundational courses.
