Canterbury Language Academy (CLA) Advanced English for Academic Study (EAP) program is designed to prepare international students with the English skills necessary for success in Australian tertiary education. The course concentrates on those aspects of English which students will meet in colleges and universities and develops these in the context of such areas as IT, Accounting and Business. Students will be exposed to teaching methodologies currently in use in Australia which may be different from those that students are familiar with in their home education system. With a strong research and project focus, the course aims to develop students’ English language skills within the Australian cultural context. Students receive 20 hours as face to face teaching weekly. Each level places an emphasis on the development and practice of Study Skills including: Academic Reading and Writing; Listening and Note Taking; Library and Research Skills; Academic Vocabulary Extension; Referencing (APA, MPA, Harvard, Oxford); Essay, Business Reports, SWOT Analysis writing; Plagiarism and collusion; Exam Preparation; Oral Presentation Skills and many other Academic skills required when studying in Australian Universities. Course length: 10-40 weeks; 20 hours per week.
