Our General English classes are a pathway for students preparing to study in our Direct Entry Program, but they are also a great choice for anyone wanting to improve their English for their career, travel, or just out of interest. Our English programs are currently available online, so you can start your studies with us wherever you are. General English at the University of Tasmania has three courses (1-3) based on Elementary, Pre-Intermediate and Intermediate levels. Your progress to each level is based on your achievement in regular progress tests. The General English Program is offered in 10-week blocks commencing every 5 weeks. You can study General English for 10 - 30 weeks. If you have an English test score (IELTS, PTE, TOEFL), you can find out below which class you will be placed into. General English Classes build the fundamentals of English language for global communication, ensuring a solid base for those who require English to develop access to further study, careers, travel or just for personal interest. These units provide students with the tools to interact confidently in a range of situations as well as taking the first steps towards success at university if you decide to take that path.
