This certificate is designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain a cancer data collection system that meets the requirements of local, state and national registries. Cancer registrars are data management experts who are responsible for collection, analysis and dissemination of cancer data. This certificate provides individuals with the opportunity to work within a cancer registry in many different settings. Cancer registrars may work in a hospital or central cancer registry. They may work on site or remotely. There are a variety of different functions/positions performed by cancer registrars including abstracting health data, quality auditing, research, follow-up, cancer conference and tumor board documentation/membership.
