The MAS in Clinical Research was designed in response to the demand for well-qualified clinical researchers in academia and industry. This critical need for individuals who are able to conduct credible patient-based research within stringent ethical and regulatory guidelines is expected to continue to grow. It is estimated that over 50,000 qualified clinical investigators are currently needed for industry-sponsored drug development. Furthermore, San Diego has become one of the most advanced centers in the world for biotechnology and clinical research. This graduate program is ideally suited for working professionals in the early to mid-stage of their careers. Through an interactive classroom environment with peers and faculty, participants directly apply recently learned knowledge and insights to current situations and challenges in their own research. The broad-based curriculum covers the principles of epidemiology, bio-statistics, patient-oriented research, health services/outcomes research, applied quantitative analysis, professional development seminars for clinical researchers, and an integrative, high-level clinical research project in the student's final term. The degree consists of 40 quarter units of study. Coursework can be completed in 12, 18, or 24 months, depending upon a participant's time to devote to the program. Students may enter the program in the summer quarter (July).
