The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (B.S.H.S.) is a degree program offered jointly by the Newark College of Arts and Sciences (NCAS) and the School of Health Professions (SHP). There are two tracks students can pursue: aging and health advocacy. The goal of the aging track is to prepare students with training in healthy living and management of disease in older adults, social policies for older adults, and knowledge, resources, and skills to effectively care for the ever-growing aging population in our communities and beyond.The goal of the health advocacy track is to equip students with the skills necessary to help patients eliminate common health care, social, and community barriers and navigate associated financial, legal, cultural, and communication challenges.Students pursuing the B.S.H.S. complete their first two years of study in NCAS, where they complete their core curriculum requirements as well as a minor in psychology or sociology.
