Pre-dentistry students can choose a variety of pathways to dental school. Some choose biology or chemistry with a concentration in pre-medical studies, while others choose clinical and diagnostic sciences with a specialization in pre-clinical professions. Most dental schools do not require a bachelor's degree before admission provided that all the prerequisite courses for the dental school have been completed. The pre-medical concentration and pre-clinical specialization represent the minimum coursework needed for application to most dental schools and the background needed before taking the Dental Admission Test (DAT) entrance exam. Students interested in pursuing a bachelor's degree must select a major from those offered by the university.
