Our mental health program prepares counselors to work in a variety of outpatient and inpatient settings such as independent practice, community agencies, managed behavioral health care settings, hospitals, employee assistance programs, and substance abuse treatment centers. Mental health counselors are trained to provide a full range of services such as assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, overview of types of interventions for individual, group, and family counseling, addictions related assessments and interventions, prevention programs, and crisis and disaster related management and interventions.<br><br>The University of Wyoming Counselor Education Program is certified by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). This certification creates standards to ensure that students develop a professional counselor identity and master the knowledge and skills to practice effectively. CACREP is the major accrediting body for the counseling profession.
